A Christmas craft

We made a paper chain this morning. Everyone helped with the cutting and gluing. It looks festive!

Thanksgiving Day

We are thankful for family and friends near and far. Our menu is fairly traditional: turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cranberry sauce, and rolls. We had our feast at noon, pumpkin pie with coffee in the afternoon and sandwiches for dinner. A good turkey sandwich is my favorite Thanksgiving food.

Thanksgiving Eve Chili Feed

We are thankful for safe travel.

Raking leaves

We have had some lovely weather this month. Maybe that's why I can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week! The kids wanted to jump in a leaf pile so we had them make one. Even our small dogwood tree provides enough leaves for some fun. Ready? Go!

Penelope : 5 months

Penny weighs 13 lbs and a few ounces. She rolls from her back to her stomach all the time. She has entered the "pterodactyl" phase of baby noises and can be quite loud when talking to her toys. She still likes hanging out in her bouncy seat and she is the most popular person in the house.

Quotes on Reading

"A life being very short, and the quiet hours of it few, we ought to waste none of them in reading valueless books." John Ruskin

"Just the knowledge that a good book is waiting for one at the end of a long day makes that day happier." Kathleen Norris

"Reading was my escape and my comfort, my consolation, my stimulant of choice: reading for the pure pleasure of it, for the beautiful stillness that surrounds you when you hear an author's words reverberating in your head." Paul Auster

Drawing

On Fridays for penmanship we draw something out of Draw Write Now. Today's subject was the cow. I drew the outline of the barn in Henry's picture, but everything else is his work. Nora's cow is being led by the hired girl.

We carved a pumpkin for Penny too

See? It has her "sunshine eyes."
